Not too much out of the ordinary this weekend. Saturday, we hung around the house most of the day, me knitting and Jim busying himself by putting more gravel dust into the cracks of our new sidewalk. Late in the afternoon, we went to the mall for a late lunch/early dinner at Twist. They have the yummiest spinach/arugula/goat cheese/tomato/pinenut/vinegrette salad, although Big Jim goes for the sushi. I also had some chicken satay, so that was it for me for the rest of the day. On Sunday, Jim attacked the overgrown azaleas and poisoned the poison ivy in the back yard - puttering in the yard makes him so happy! I spent my time knitting Kemp from Simply Noro. It took me a while to get gauge (so what else is new?), but once I did, it went quickly and I was able to finish the first half and start the second. We then adjourned to dinner at another of our favorites, Einstein's. This restaurant used to be situated in a conglomeration of houses, but has lately undergone an extensive renovation. The last two times we vistited, only the bar area was open, but last night we were able to eat in the new dining room. Lovely! And, as always, the food was wonderful.
This afternoon, Big Jim had to fly to Tampa, because some idiot scheduled an important meeting for the morning after Memorial Day. Before he left, we went to Border's to look at guide books for the San Francisco and Lake Tahoe areas, because that's where we are going on vacation later this year. The best part is, my brother-in-law has a house near Tahoe. This, combined with the two free round-trip plane tickets Big Jim got for being a too-frequent flyer, means a relatively cheapy vacation (the hideously expensive rent-a-car notwithstanding.) It's an area of the country I've never been to, and despite the fact that part of our time will be spent visiting relatives, I'm excited about going. (I really shouldn't be pissy about this - it's the relatives that are giving us the free lodging!)
But the biggest thrill of the weekend was the discovery of the wonder that is Whole Food Market (ok, so I'm really easy to thrill!) We've had these stores here for quite a while, but I've never been inclined to go. But Big Jim was hungry, and it is next to the Border's, so in we went. Oh. Wow. I almost wept at the beauty of the veggies and fish and cheese, and the, oh and the, and, and. Oh. I could get into serious trouble in this store! I'll be visiting again for my weekly shopping trip on Friday - I'm so excited!! In addition to the sandwiches, chips, and root beer we consumed on the premises, I snuck some goat and blue cheeses in the cart, along with a box of "Fat-Free Chocolate Chewies," which are like round, flat, crunchie brownies. Oh. Wow. Cheap, non-fattening (ok, let me dream) goodies.
So, to recap, we spent the holiday weekend, shopping, eating, working in the yard, eating, knitting, eating, vacation planning, eating, book browsing, and eating - what's not to like? Now I just need to figure out where to take myself to dinner tonight, and the weekend will be complete.
